The Aspects
The Sacred Geometry
If Planets are the actors and Signs are the costumes, Aspects are the script. They describe the conversations happening between the planets—whether they are kissing, arguing, or ignoring each other.
Planetary Conversations
A birth chart is not valid if the planets aren't talking to each other. Aspects are the geometric angles formed between planets (e.g., 90°, 120°). These angles determine the flow of energy. A harmonious angle (Trine) creates talent and ease, while a tense angle (Square) creates friction and action.
The Ptolemaic Aspects
There are 5 major aspects used in traditional astrology. These are called the Ptolemaic Aspects: the Conjunction (0°), Sextile (60°), Square (90°), Trine (120°), and Opposition (180°). These form the 'Hard' (Action) and 'Soft' (Flow) aspects that make up your personality structure.
Orbs: The Zone of Influence
Aspects don't have to be exact. The Orb is the allowance we give. For example, a Square is 90°, but if two planets are 88° apart, we still count it. The tighter the orb (closer to exact), the louder the conversation.
The 5 Ptolemaic Aspects
The Conjunction
0°Two planets standing together. Their energies blend into one super-force.
The Opposition
180°Two planets face-to-face. A tug-of-war that requires balance and compromise.
The Trine
120°Planets in the same element. Energy flows effortlessly, creating natural talent.
The Square
90°Planets at a sharp turn. It creates friction that forces you to take action and grow.
The Sextile
60°Planets in compatible elements. It offers an opportunity if you are willing to work for it.
